Greg Grunberg saves children’s lives. For real.

by Grace on November 23rd, 2006

normal Greg GrunbergYeah, Greg Grunberg is a hero in his own right.

To his son, Jake, Greg’s the greatest dad and his superhero. But more than that, Greg has joined the fight to cure epilepsy, a disease his son has been suffering from since the child was diagnosed three years ago. “Every morning his son Jake suffers an epileptic seizure”, recalls Grunberg. “It’s like his brain is running a marathon. Here’s someone who’s 8, wakes up and knows he’s going to have a seizure. He is absolutely the bravest person I’ve ever met.”

Two years ago. Jake had the most severe seizure he’d ever experienced and had to be helicoptered to the hospital. “I was on the gurney wheeling him in like, ‘Jakey, you’re going to be fine,’but I was crying inside,” says Grunberg. “That was the worst night of my life.” Finally, a doctor at the UCLA pediatric neurology division was able to regulate his seizures with two drugs, Lamictal and Keppra. The mixture, says Grunberg, “absolutely saved my son’s life.”

gregFrom that time on, Greg has been outspoken and vigilant about educating the public on pediatric epilepsy and raising much-needed funds for PEP (The Pediatric Epilepsy Project). Since his Alias days, Greg has auctioned off $350,000 worth of (and counting) greeting cards of original finger paintings made by celebrities.

These days, NBC is hosting another auction to benefit Greg Grunberg’s PEP. This time, the actors of NBC’s Heroes have autographed character illustrations, as well as limited “Heroes” promotional items authographed by legendary comnic book artist Tim Sale. The auction ends November 28. For more information, go to http://www.HeroesAuction.com.
