“Save the cheerleader, save the world”

by Grace on November 21st, 2006

Tonight’s Heroes episode “Homecoming” got me some answers and more questions. And it made me wanna fast forward to next week’s episode “6 months ago” hoping I’d find my answers there.

nathan2I am starting to really hate Nathan now. Such a self-serving, egocentric, cynic doesn’t deserve to be called a hero. In other series/shows/comics, he’d be a villain-antagonist. Sure, his flying ability isn’t particularly spectacular like spontaneous regeneration or mind-reading (like he admitted - he can fly. but then what?) still I can’t help but think that if that same gift were given to a less-selfish person, maybe he’ll do more good for mankind. But I guess the show thinks a cynic like Nathan is more in following with human nature than someone like say, Clark Kent.

Nikki purchased a gun to kill her husband. That’s not even Nikki anymore, I think she’s trapped and her alter-ego has gained control… I wonder if the bullet will actually hit D.L. or will it pass through him, since his ability might be more than just passing through walls/solid objects but more like having a “phasing” ability similar to X-Men’s Kitty Pryde.

Is Simone starting to believe?

hro 109 10And Sanjob Iyer? Mohinder told the boy that he saw him in his dreams. But the boy replied, “I don’t come to anyone,” he replies. “They come to me… they have questions that need answers.” Mohinder says Sanjob is “one of them”… a hero?

What happened to Hiro, and will his changing the past make the future better or worse or the same? That’s a time-traveler’s ultimate nightmare. That no matter what one does, the future will still happen the way it’s suppose to be destined.

Sylar - what’s the extent of his powers? Scary is the thought of him an enemy who can take them all. And yet, Eden’s power seem to surpass Sylar’s! And she’s not afraid of him. Are they enemies or is someone using someone else?

hro 109 18And of course, Peter… I knew somehow he’d “acquire” Claire’s regenerative abilities. No question about that. The show did try to make it look as if he was going to die… But then again, giving out too many premonitions/warning like that - from Nathan, Simone, Ando - just makes one suspicious that it’s really NOT going to happen.

And I guess no one knows yet if saving the cheerleader will indeed save the world. That’s for next week’s… keep watching.

“And of course, Peter… I knew somehow he’d “acquire” Claire’s regenerative abilities.”

I didn’t realize that until the middle of the episode, when my sister pointed it out, and I was like Of course!

How can you says that Nathan’s ability of flight isn’t all that spectacular? How many people dream of just that? Sure, he can’t “come back from the dead” like Claire seems to, but apparently even she has her weakness - otherwise why would they need to “save” the cheerleader? If she were truly invincible, she wouldn’t need saving.
I think Peter’s ability is pretty nifty - and one that most likely won’t ever be turned for personal gain - considering he can’t use his power unless in the company of another hero.
My big question, other than what’s the deal with Eden having the power to control others, is who’s side is Claire’s dad really on…

Brianne, I’m not saying Nathan should even ignore his ability, but it does seem like he’s in denial. At least maybe like the rest of the other heroes he’s confused about his ability’s original thus his angst over it. but i am with you, he should come to terms and start using it for good.
Claire’s dad- he doesn’t exactly have “pure” motives and methods doesn’t he? but as the show wants to “put forth” every hero (and character) in this show is very human - with strengths and flaws. i guess that’s what makes us keep coming back. they’re just like (some of) us.
