The Making of Sylar: Questions for Heroes ‘Six Months Ago’ episode

by Grace on November 30th, 2006

Chandra Suresh sought out a Gabriel Gray, convinced that Gabriel had certain abilities that was a genetic improvement of the human race. Gabriel Gray it seemed, was not a mild-mannered watchmaker.

Gabriel Gray thought he is, and desperately wanted to be, different and special. When Chandra disprooves this with a series of tests, Gabriel went to find Brian Davis, a man on Chandra’s list who has telekinesis.

Gabriel, now calling himself SYLAR, kills Brian Davis as a way of “fixing” him out of his abilities. He goes back to Chandra and proves himself by demonstrating a newfound telekinetic ability.

How exactly did Gabriel/Sylar acquire Brian’s powers? Chandra did refer to the brain as the seat of a man’s soul. Did he eat the poor guy’s brains out? Can Sylar syphon out a person’s brainwaves/soul/abilities?

And Chandra - did he see something different in Gabriel’s MRI that made him abruptly stop the tests and declare Gabriel “normal”? Maybe he saw something off the charts, that made him think twice about the “goodness/purity” of the person sitting across him…

But by seeking Gabriel out, did Chandra ultimately start the chain of events into turning Gabriel into the killer that he is now?

[…] Taking the sweeps with more than 14M viewers, NBC’s new hit show is Heroes, evident even from Genesis pilot episode. The show is about a loose band of ordinary people with heroic powers, whose apparent destinies are to save the world. We caught the show after episode 8 with a glimpse of what’s to come, come “midnight”, where it seemed everything revolved around saving the cheerleader at her homecoming… by Peter no less! (I blogged about a possible Peter-Claire but some think that’s too gross, so ok - we’ll drop that). But because the show’s still in the middle of the season, we really wouldn’t know if saving her will save the world. Yet. We were left with more questions than answers. Hoping episode 10 will have answers, we were taken six months back, and the episode did make some sense about the lives of Nikki; Peter and Nathan; the evil Sylar (video here) who wants nothing else but to kill the people from Chandra Suresh’s list of heroes; and HRG the man who I think is behind it all. At least I think he’s got something to do with putting this strange marking on our heroes. This Monday’s episode “Fallout” (lots of photos and a spoiler) may just be about the fall of a hero, which I’m hoping NOT. Please… not. […]
