The Superheroes Flashback to November

by Grace on December 2nd, 2006

Superhero Profiles isn’t even a month old, and already we’ve covered a lot of news about our favorite superheroes. Whether it’s about the TV shows and characters, movies, comics or archetypes, or actors, this blog tries to cover ‘em all. So if you missed a post or two, or you just want to know how November panned out.. here’s the Superheroes Digest, v.11.06 .

Heroes @ NBC

Taking the sweeps with more than 14M viewers, NBC’s new hit show is Heroes, evident even from Genesis pilot episode. The show is about a loose band of ordinary people with heroic powers, whose apparent destinies are to save the world. We caught the show after episode 8 with a glimpse of what’s to come, come “midnight”, where it seemed everything revolved around saving the cheerleader at her homecoming… by Peter no less! (I blogged about a possible Peter-Claire but some think that’s too gross, so ok - we’ll drop that). But because the show’s still in the middle of the season, we really wouldn’t know if saving her will save the world. Yet. We were left with more questions than answers. Hoping episode 10 will have answers, we were taken six months back, and the episode did make some sense about the lives of Nikki; Peter and Nathan; the evil Sylar (video here) who wants nothing else but to kill the people from Chandra Suresh’s list of heroes; and HRG the man who I think is behind it all. At least I think he’s got something to do with putting this strange marking on our heroes. This Monday’s episode “Fallout” (lots of photos and a spoiler) may just be about the fall of a hero, which I’m hoping NOT. Please… not.

“Heroes” stars include Milo Ventimiglia as Peter Petrelli. Milo’s from Gilmore Girls and will also be appearing as Rocky Jr. in the movie Rocky Balboa (link to a trailer). He’s been highly visible at the talk shows here, and here with Masi Oka (as Hiro Nakamura). Hiro has a blog that chronicles his new-found heroic destiny. There’s of course Hayden Panettiere as the cheerleader Clair Bennet. She was interviewed about her current and other projects, and was seen posing with Santa! We also showed a close up smile of “crush-able” Sendhil Ramamurthy (as Mohinder Suresh). Greg Grunberg (as Mark Pattman) has been passionate about a charity that led NBC to host an auction of the actors’ sketches of their characters, including a link to what Milo drew.

I also got to blog about several great people at the helm - Tim Kring the creator (interviewed here and here), Greg Beeman as one of the directors who give us an inside view (he was as Smallville once upon a time) and Tim Sale for the graphics.

In the next couple of months, we’ll know what becomes of our heroes, especially since ‘Captain Sulu’ joins the cast as Hiro’s dad.

Heroes airs on Monday nights at 9/8c, now and next year! It re-airs at the SciFi every Friday 7pm. Season 1 is summarized in this page.

Smallville @ CW

The show’s been running for more than five years now, and that’s a lot to say for ’staying power’. So far, season five has been the best, but the current season isn’t far in the running for really good episodes. Lex proposed to Lana but the video kept us wanting. Hopefully we’ll know something by next Thursday (spoiler*). It was a little quiet in Smallville (pun intended) but things will sizzle up when Clark returns to rescue us with his superpowers.

Smallville airs Thursday nights at 8/7c. Season 7 is summarized in this page.

Spiderman @ The Movies

This much-awaited 3rd installment Spiderman-3 (with the coolest trailer) will open May 2007! A lot of fans have been waiting for this, especially comic afficionados familiar with Venom. Yep, Spiderman’s battling some formidable foes this time, himself including (*spoilers!*). But not everything’s a spoiler*, since Spidey (er - Tobey) became a dad. And just off the cuff, here’s what a Spiderman CPU looks like.

Superheroes @ other places

Word has it Josh Holloway will play Gambit in a future X-Men movie. The Superman Returns DVD is out for viewing-collecting!
